You'll notice that the menu on this online blackjack page is different from the menu on the rest of CountingCards.org. That's because we've decided to launch a mini-portal of sorts in this subfolder, and we thought that the online blackjack topics we're covering on these pages would work better almost as a second, separate site. This page features a free online blackjack game and some online blackjack tips to help you get more out of your online blackjack experiences. Future pages in this section will include information about Internet specific strategy, where and how to play just for fun, and where to find tournaments on the Internet.

Online Blackjack Tips
These online blackjack tips are designed to help you have more fun while playing blackjack on the Internet. If I've left out some information that I should have included, then please contact me and I'll update this page accordingly.
Tip #1 - You Can't Count Cards in an Online Blackjack Game
This tip presupposes that you're playing web blackjack at a web based casino for real money. Obviously, if you're playing a game that's meant to be a tutorial on how to count cards, then sure, you can count cards. What I mean by this tip is that no amount of card counting skill is going to help you overcome the house edge on a blackjack game at an Internet casino.
Tip #2 - Blackjack Is Still the Best Game to Play in an Online Casino
The reason for this is simple--you get better odds from blackjack than from any other casino game. Some people might claim that Jacks or Better video poker offers as low a house edge as blackjack, and that might be true in some cases, but it's a rare online casino that offers a 9/6 payout table for Jacks or Better these days. And even if you find one, you still have to learn how to play Jacks or Better correctly.
Yes, if you play blackjack on the Internet, you'll be playing a negative expectation game. But if you play ANY game at an online casino, you're playing a negative expectation game. Doesn't it make sense that you'd want your negative expectation to be as low as possible?
Tip #3 - Use Basic Strategy
Basic strategy is the mathematically correct play for any given hand in a blackjack game. The difference in the house edge between a player who just "goes with his gut" compared to a player who uses basic strategy consistently is tremendous. Consider this--the house edge for a basic strategy player is only 0.5%. For a player who's just guessing at how to play his hand, the house edge is 4%. That doesn't sound like a big difference, but it's a factor of eight.
What does that mean for the player?
It's the difference between losing $5 an hour on average and losing $40 an hour on average.
It's the difference between having a $100 bankroll that lasts for 20 hours and one that lasts for 2 or 3 hours.
It's your money and your entertainment. Shouldn't you work on getting the most entertainment for your dollar?
Besides, the intellectual challenge of learning perfect basic strategy and using it while you play will keep dementia at bay.
Tip #4 - Know the Gambling Laws Where You Live
In the United States, the laws related to playing online blackjack for real money are murky at best. It's the position of the Justice Department that any kind of online gambling is illegal because of the Federal Wire Act. Other experts say that the Federal Wire Act only applies to sports betting, not to casino games and poker games.
Laws in other jurisdictions outside the United States vary too. My advice is to obey the law of the land, no matter where you live. But you have to know what the law is before making your educated decision.
Tip #5 - Be Careful Which Casino You Choose
The Internet is littered with stores of casino gamblers who have won thousands of dollars who were unable to get their winnings back from the casino once they'd won. Silly gamblers worry that the blackjack games are rigged. Here's a secret--casinos don't have to rig a blackjack game; it's already rigged in their favor because of the rules. That's called the house edge.
But rogue casinos exist, and they will take your money. So do some research before you decide to play blackjack on the Internet for real money. You could save yourself some heartache.
Tip #6 - Don't Play with the Rent Money
This advice has been repeated so many times on so many gambling sites that it now seems trite and almost meaningless. But it's anything but meaningless, especially on today's Internet. When the Department of Justice can close a casino and freeze their funds, you do not want to be in a position where you have more money than you can afford tied up in an online casino account somewhere.
In other words, if you decide that it's legal to play, and you're going to fund an account, don't put so much money into it that if you can't get it back out you're put in a spot. Take Murphy's Law to hear--if anything can go wrong, it will go wrong.
Tip #7 - Have Fun
Online blackjack is a form of entertainment like any other. You're SUPPOSED to have fun. If you're not enjoying the game, then find something else to do that you will enjoy, and go do that instead.
In fact, if it's no longer fun, and you can't stop playing, then you might have some kind of gambling compulsion. If that's the case, seek help as soon as possible. Lives have been ruined by compulsive gambling, and the sooner you get help, the better your chances are of beating it.
If you have to play for real money to have fun, then play for real money. If you're satisfied with a free online blackjack game, then by all means, just keep playing the free online blackjack game. The important thing is to continue to have fun.
I hope that these online blackjack tips help you enjoy the world of Internet blackjack games a little bit more than you would have otherwise.
